International Conference on Family Science
The International Conferences on Family Science build on the congresses on family research that have been held regularly since 1994, which are based on a long-standing collaboration between the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) in Wiesbaden and the State Institute for Family Research (ifb) at the University of Bamberg in Germany, as well as the Austrian Institute for Family Studies (OIF) at the University of Vienna.
Following five congresses held in German-speaking countries through 2017, the International Conferences on Family Science was subsequently launched in 2026, co-organized by the Family Sociology Section of the German Sociological Association (DGS), the Family Research Section of the Austrian Sociological Association (ÖGS), the Life Course research committee of the Swiss Sociological Association (SSA) and the Swiss Research Center LIVES, hosted by the German Youth Institute (DJI) in Munich.
